All The Leaves Are Brown

It's all gone quiet is an understatement, the lake has closed shop this week with the massive temperature change. They did forcast this to happen and they were right this time!!! To go from 23oc the week before to -3oc this week at night and not getting up to 10oc in the day it is just too extreme. The water has gone gin clear over the last few days and the two lads have worked hard but to no avail which is a real shame for them. Odd fish showing randomly here and there but no pattern to follow, all the resident bushes are fishless and crystal clear underneath which makes me think the fish have moved out into the centre of the lake over the last couple of days. Pete has moved from peg 2 into 4 today with a few fish crashing in there last night, just hope the move pays off.
The nights have been bitter and hard frosts most mornings this week, including that bright full moon which seems to have kept the fish down compared to the crashing all over the lake the week before. It's fingers crossed they can pick up a good fish each at best.
I have been running the predator twine over the 15 acre lake today, which seems the better method to keep the Comorants off the lake and eating my young Zander. While rowing up and down the lake the fish on there seemed to be at the back of the cold wind, but in the teeth of the wind right next to the lake a large bird of prey took off as I approached the trees to attach the twine. First of all because it happened so quick and took me by surprise I thought out of the corner of my eye it was a Buzzard, but just as I looked up another swooped out of the tree right past the boat and it was a Shorteared Owl again!!!! These must be the 2 I have been seeing most evenings throughout the summer, but why they were perched in that postion I dont know, it seemed a strange place to roost. I will have a look tomorrow with the Binoculars to see if they have returned??
Apart from that it's wound down and ready to to put the lake to bed!!!!
