First Fish Out? & The "Gos" Is Back
Posted: 15th Oct 2012
Well just a bit of info on the wildlife front which seems to be alive at the present!!!
The rain subsided last night and even though the water temp has plummeted, Neil in peg 1 put the first fish on the bank this week with a stunning Mirror of 49lb 12oz!!! It was in lovely winter colours with a deep orange underside and tail, he also lost a couple due to a branch falling in from the storm yesterday, which I had to remove with the boat this morning. I think it will be a slow week because of the weather but hopefully a few more good fish to be had.
Well, today the lads had a spectacular sight in the late Autumn sunshine, it has been a fantastic day with the sun shining but still cold if you're in the wind. The 2 Steves were at the shower block, while Neil & Nick were talking in Peg 1. Two crows fly past over the lake with the killer Goshawk coming out of nowhere like a fighter jet, smashing into one of the Crows in mid air and knocking him clean out of the sky and into the lake right in front of the lads, The Goshawk swerved around the trees at the dam end while the Crow is flapping for its life in the lake but managing to lift itself off the water and take flight again, only for the "Gos" to come back with the other Crow mobbing his tale end and snatching the Crow again over the lake, but this time carrying him off for dinner!!!! What a sight, and I cannot believe it after only commenting I would have loved to see him again after finding the Moorhen remains on Saturday. It's not something I have ever witnessed myself and I hope this bird takes residence here for a while for me to get a second glimpse.
Lots of other animals seem to be around over the last few days, with a Roe Deer crossing the Dam between the lakes yesterday in broad daylight, followed by Steve in Peg 4 spotting a Pine Martin on the far side of the lake running along the ground. It also looks like one of the resident Owls is still passing the lake every evening, which could be either a Tawny or Short Eared, along with the Kingerfishers still working the lakes each day like high speed trains, the fishery is sure living up to its name this week.
Back soon with more interesting news.
