Catch Report Update
Posted: 15th Jul 2012
We are now half way through the season and it's time to catch up from where we left off on the old website. As you all know fishing can differ from venue to venue, and June/July can see some strange behaviour from the fish at the Sanctuary.
Running the fishery for the last 6 years I have noticed there can be a lull at this time of the year for different reasons, which predominently revolves around pre & post spawning, but also the natural food larder is full, which as anglers we are competing against. The bloodworm beds are brimming, dragonfly larvae by the bucket load and midge pupae covering the whole lake surface, this combined with tiny Roach fry make up a big part of Mr Carps diet, more than we think! But despite these conditions the lake does throw up one of the big girls or one of the lakes rare inhabitants at this time of the year.
It's also easy to forget that our Northwest clients see so little sun, it's always nice at this time of the year to get some guaranteed sunshine on your back, whilst sat by the rods, listening to the birds singing and the fish crashing.
The fish have had three major spawnings and a few other flits this season which is partly due to the weather conditions being the polar opposite from last year and perfect for the job in hand. This has left some of the big females 12lb down and even some males dropping 5lb, which just shows how much effort has gone into this years reproduction. A large percentage of the weight loss will be gained very quickly and hopefully we will see some big weights again at the backend of the year and bring the fish back to tip-top condition again.
Week 10 catch report is where we left off and the "Heades Brothers" arrived for the first time in June to hopefully fill their boots, which they normally do!! This time though the fish did not play ball and were more intent on crashing throughout the night and not going down on the baits. The best fish came early on from down in peg 5 at 44lb 1oz, but the week ended on only 6 fish.(1x40, 1x30, 3x20lb, 1x grassie) as usual it was a laugh a minute and a great week, even though the fish had other ideas and we look foward to seeing them again in September.
I will leave it there and the rest is to follow tomorrow!!
Bye For Now
