2015 Here We Come!!
Posted: 29th Mar 2015
Well its been a long while since the last update apart from regular pictures and small snippets on Facebook over the last few months.
We have been working hard getting ready for the season opening with 65 ton of gravel lining the pegs, paths and parking area last week. Also I have decided to use the dye this season to control the weed. We cannot have another season like last year playing havoc with the balance of the lake and making the fishing very difficult. The dye is a food grade product that is completly safe to all aquatic life and is very effective if used correctly, but we shall see this summer I guess!!
All the bankside vegetation has also had a good trim, which will be followed by all the hedgerows having a hair cut in the next couple of weeks before the song birds start nesting and the ground dries out a little. Its been a wet week building upto opening but I'm hoping its going to be more settled the weather this season so we can get onto the 15 acre lake bed and finish the job we started a couple of years ago!! The near side is 50% empty at the moment and I will drain the lake out completely in the next few weeks ready for the sun to work its magic ready for the machine work.
This week it's our regular boys again kicking the season off, the 3 lads have spread out covering both ends and the middle of the lake, with Graham in Peg 5 landing straight on fish with the opening carp going 44lb 6oz within an hour of being here. No sooner did he photograph the fish and put it back, the other rod "went off" putting his second fish in the net at 45lb 10oz so a cracking opening brace for the season. He has followed it up with a brace of 32lB mirrrors in the night and dropped a fish. The weather today has been shocking with very strong winds dropping a few trees today and snapping two landing net poles on the pegs which I have never seen before. The wind is smashing into Peg 5 but its cold again and apart from the blue colour to the lake the water is crystal clear telling me the fish have not woken-up just yet.
Dave in Peg 1 has just put his first fish on the bank with a stunning looking mirror of 37lb 4oz so its a good start despite the weather, lets see how things unfold this week.
Keep an eye on FB because I will be using it far more this season to update small snippets of what is taking place most days, the regular weekly update will follow as per usual on the blog for the season ahead.
It's good to be back open and we are really looking forward to the summer this year, its been a long winter so role on that sunshine!
Back soon
