40s All Around!!

Posted: 2nd Aug 2015

Well the dry weather continues and we did have our first drop of rain this week for the first time in 11 weeks, but it was no more than a couple of mm to wet the flower beds!!

The lake is holding its own so far this summer and we are just about keeping the lake full but it looks like storms are set for this week so lets see what happens.

The fishing once again has been vey good for the time of the year, weights are on the low side as to be expected and a lot of the young stockies showed up this week, probably due to the warm water conditions and them getting on the bait very quickly indeed after the spawning. A little and often approach seems to still be working with a top-up each hour of 20-30 boilies and a good kilo over each rod once or twice per day to try and keep the fish returning to your spots. The better fish did seem to be down Peg 5 end of the lake for the first half of the week with Jim in Peg 5 taking 4 fish over 40lb+ to mid 40 this week, along with some big 30s. Dave came to settle a score after a tough time last year, dropping into Peg 4, he broke his pb with a 39lb+ mirror which he was blown away with, only to follow it up the next morning with a 45lb 9oz mirror that I had the privilege to weigh and photograph at breakfast time!! He had left the rod all night and contemplated reeling the rod in when it rattled off, happy days. Fate & Destiny hey Dave!!!

Kevin in Peg 1 was building the swim each day and catching a lot of fish in the daylight hours only. He was getting pick-ups within the hour but it seemed that the grassies were in the swim for the first 36 hours, they moved out and the young stockies moved straight in. Despite them being small fish and I have not put them in the total count, they are stunning and should be appreciated for their beauty rather than size.

All 3 of the anglers this week landed fish over 45lb with the largest going 47lb. No less than 9 fish over the 40lb+ mark this week with a total count of 55 fish, 38 being 20lb-47lb and 17 stockies less than 20lb.

All in all it's been another fantastic weeks fishing and hard to beat concidering the soring temps, lets hope the next week follows suit!!!

Back Soon
