Brace Of 50s

Posted: 15th May 2016

It's been another memorable weeks fishing for the 3 regular chaps with all 3 setting a new pb and if the weather had not flipped on its head by Monday they could have emptied the lake!!! The wind had swung around on the change over smashing down the lake into Peg 1, with Steve the week before having his luck in Peg 5 with a brace of 50s the fish had decided to move on the new wind and Simon in Peg 1 this week had caught 10 fish which had suffered 6 hook pulls which was a strange occurrence....a few tweeks of the rig and he was back in play! Alex in Peg 5 had to play the long game with baiting his spots and waiting, but they did come and he was catching every 24 hours nice and steady through the week. Dave in Peg 3 was picking up odd fish passing through but I felt the fish had sat at range out in Peg 4 feeling safe where they have been for weeks now.Same again a few big fish lost for poor Dave, including a real chuck at the net that broke his heart, but he soon bounced back with a new pb of 45lb!!The weather was very warm at the weekend and I had the feeling the fish really started to feed hard, building up for spawning but what came next was once again very unseasonal and the temps plummeted once again leaving the big fish totally perplexed with what to do, feed, spawn, or not, rest, they are struggling with the rise and fall in temps.

The fish seemed to move out of Peg 1 after Simons start and for the next few days it was only Alex getting amongst the fish other than only the small stockies still willing to feed...the change could have not been more stark and it was a clear sign how the weather plays such an important part in your weeks fishing. Simon took a new pb of 50lb 8oz on the Sunday, followed by Alex landing a different fish of 50lb 8oz on the Monday so everyone was riding high!

Despite the cold rain and thunderstorms, Simon moved swim on the last night into Peg 4 with it paying off before packing up with a 46lb+ mirror on the saturday morning....well done buddy it was good angling. All in all the lads had a great week and made the most of the conditions....the week ended with 25 fish landed, a good 10 lost and 8 stockies just under 20lb not included in the total. 2 x 50lb+, 4 x 40lb+ including 45,46lb, 6 x 30lb+ with 5 being upper 30s, 13 x 20lb to 29lb.

It looks set to be brighter this week coming, with an increase in pressure and brighter days...the wind is still very cold from the north but pleasant and sunny.

The chaps have had a blinding start this week with some big fish indeed...let's hope it continues but that will have to wait for the next blog.
