Back In Play!!
Posted: 11th May 2014
Well back in play was not just the fish playing ball, but myself fixing the lake dunked camera!! Happy days. The weather was more settled this week but the fish are really wanting to spawn more than feed, with the males milting on the mats and the females looking very plump with mature eggs and swollen vents, telling me as soon as conditions are perfect they will commence. The fish on the 15 acre lake have spent two days in full swing of their spawning rituals and it's been very calm over the last few days after their major event.
The lads fished well this week with the 3 of them working hard, baiting accurately and landing 32 fish. No less than 10 fish over 40lb+ to 47lb, best of the week going 50lb 8oz from peg 5 for Richard, 16 x 30lb (including half between 37lb-38lb) & the remaining 5 fish being 20lb+. 6 other stunning little stockies were landed but not included in the overall total. Picture below is Shauns 32lb long old warrior that only seems to be landed around spawning time every couple of years, well done buddy. FB for some other pictures of this weeks catch.
Sanctuary Pellet, Nutrabaits Blue Oyster, Cell type sweet coconut bait produced the fish this week.
All in all another good week but the weather has changed massively again this weekend with a big cold front moving in today, giving high winds and hail so how this will affect the fish we will have to see. Richard has taken a lovely male mirror of 43lb today from Peg 3 & Ray landing a 26lb from Peg 1 this afternoon in the hail storm. Nick has landed a Zander while reeling in his hookbait, does that count??
