When You Least Expect It

Posted: 6th Jun 2014

Well this week could not be more of a contrast than the previous!! The fish spawned a couple of weeks ago as you know, followed by last week being a great result with the fish turning on the feed and a bonus of nearly all the fish coming out in the daylight hours. Well this week has been very different and I thought it would have been another big hit? The chaps this week arrived being led by Simon who came a couple of seasons ago, they had a 32lb,26lb & a stockie on the Saturday night but Sunday it was black with fish down in Peg 5. Dave said he had never seen so many fish but I should have known then something was about to happen!! This was the build-up of the bulk of the stock and in the early hours they kicked off spawning again which was a suprise after seeing all the females the week before totally empty. The spawning took place on the near bank again with the young stocky males charging up and down around Pegs 2 & 3 looking for any female to make love to!! Well it did not stop there with it carrying on late Monday night & the early hours of Tuesday, with it fizzling out on Wednesday. All I can say is there can be no more Females left to spawn, so we have a good year ahead with all the fish lean, fit and ready to put some weight back on.

As you can imagine the fishing has been unsettled with Dave still catching in Peg 5 on Bright pop-ups only 5 yards infront of the Peg as the males charged past, picking a bait up every now and then. Dave took fish to 43lb+ with this method, Simon stuck with his spots but that was hit & miss throughout the week but he still had fish to 42lb 10oz. Alex has played chess all week trying to chase them with luck not favouring him this week. He has fished his socks off and a dam good angler too, but only a couple of stockies have come his way so far, but another move into Peg 1 tonight with a strong fresh eastly wind wipping up, they are showing all over his baits so fingers crossed. A dozen fish on the bank this week with 3 over 40lb+ and 4 young stockies, lets hope the amount of showing fish over the last 24hrs produces a sweet end to the week.

Thats all for now, hopefully no more blogs to follow about spawning,Ha,Ha, what do I know.
