The Cats Away The Mice Will Play

Posted: 16th Jun 2014

We took the decision to close the doors this year for our first holiday in 7 years of running the business. The business has had our full attention from the start but with our young boys coming of age a well earned holiday was needed, so apologies for the lack of updates.

The lads who left on June 7th finished on 13 fish with the best going 43lb. 3 fish over 40lb+, 7 x 30lb+ (to 38lb+) 3 x 20lb+ (to 28lb 8oz) and a handful of stockies not counted. A good 6 fish lost due to hookpulls but more to do with the fish picking baits up very half heartled after the last bout of spawning which took place this week and it's all finished now at last!! I have never seen the fish so spawned out and it has been a fantastic spawning this season which will all prove well for the year ahead. Because of the spawning the lads weights this week were rock bottom but either way the lads fished well and a great time had by all.

We had the family here last week and the fish have taken full advantage of no anglers on the lake which has never taken place before for them. To be honest the behaviour of the fish this year has been much more natural with them showing out in the lake far more and doing what fish should do naturally!! This morning a good dozen fish were milling around over a small weedbed directly infront of Peg 3, you could have touched them, they were so close, along with the fish showing all over the lake and ripping the bottom up in most areas. They will have this week to rest, while the family does too and then it's back to business this weekend with the two chaps who have booked the lake hopefully ready for some hungry fish!!

Dave in Peg 5 last week took a few nice males to 43lb+ on bright yellow pop-ups as they charged around looking frisky, most of the other fish fell to Monster Crab fishmeal type bait.

The key over the next few weeks will be baiting 4-5 different spots and keep the rods moving around, rest the baited areas for a couple of hours each day and giving them some bait!!!

The lake is alive on the wildlife front at the moment but I will do a sperate blog about this subject this week.

Thats all for now, time to cut the grass and sort the weedy veg patch, is there any time to get a rod out??? Sounds good to me.

Over & Out
