Right-hand Rod Special

Posted: 4th Sep 2016

Well what a great weeks fishing we have just had......the weather is just on the turn, we are still experiencing very high temps for the time of the season but the cooler nights are helping to make it a little more bareable even though it's still in the 30s each week. The fish have sensed the change and are starting to feed, they are hard on the naturals at the moment with masses of bubbles frothing the surface each morning at dawn break. We had 2 regulars this week fishing along with 2 new customers who had joined the group. Mark and keith opted for Pegs 1 & 3 and farther and son....Harry & Paul fished together in Peg 4. Because 5 was left empty and Paul fished his Right-hand Rod inbetween the two swims in no-mans land gave the fish lots of room to come and go without any pressure in Peg 5.....along with a different line lay instead of across to the far bank, this became the big fish rod this week. All the chaps caught plenty of fish but of the 7 fish over 40lb this week, 6 came to Pauls magic rod....what a result. A few of his fish had been 50lb this spring and that catch in May would have resulted in multiply 50s for Paul from the one rod and just goes to show fishing somewhere different can pay off.

Regular baiting paid off this week, and soon after baiting the fish were falling to the bait very quickly....the chaps all used over 20kg of boilie each, along with pellet and my thoughts are now that towards the end of the season the fish will be feeding harder due to the high temps this summer making them very inactive.

No less than 52 fish landed this week and that's not including a dozen stockies under 20lb. 7 fish over 40lb with the best going 48lb,47,46.8,46,44.8,43,40 along with 25 fish over 30lb+ (including 3 x39lb+ & another 8 between 35-38lb. The remaining 19 fish over 20lb+ included 6 upper 20s.

All in all it's been a great weeks fishing with some lovely fish to boot...they are just showing signs of starting to put weight back on and lets hope for plenty of 50s before the season is out.

We have 4 regulars on this week with John taking a 46lb 8oz mirror on the first night from Peg 5....for whatever reson it seems most of the better fish are down that end of the lake at the moment....hard to believe they can stack into such a small area when they feel the need to!
