Time to unleash the Avanty

Posted: 4th Aug 2014

Well another week comes to a close and the group of 3 new guys who booked the lake went home with new Pb's under there belts!!! The fishing was patchy this week and lots of fish could be seen feeding in Pegs 2 & 5, but with no lines in there all week the fish seemed quite happy to stay put. I'm sure the lads won't mind me saying that the relaxing and social was an important part of their holiday, with the guys enjoying the atmosphere and relaxation just as much as the fishing ,they all had a fanstastic week.

John in Peg 1 was the first out of the blocks with a cracking long mirror of 40lb 8oz which set the tone for Steve in Peg 3 and Johns son "Lee" in Peg 4. The bites were few and far between but Steve was soon to follow John with the best of the week at 46lb 6oz smashing his Pb by 44lb 6oz!!!!!!Now all week Steve was trying to convince me that Dragon fishing tackle made some fanstastic equipment at bargain prices. I tried to convince him that you buy cheap buy twice, but he was certain that the Avanty rod was the way foward, so next time you see me out on the bank it's a 3 rod Avanty special for me!!!! Plenty of banter and laughs all week and it was a real pleasure to have these Gents at the fishery.

Lee managed a 20lb Male Common and a Mirror of 35lb+ by midweek, with the total ending on 7 fish including the two fish over 40lb+,3 x 30lb+ and 2 fish of 20lb+. It was not a blistering week and once again we did have some crazy weather, one minute being red hot, then a cold storm would move in and lash it down with unseasonal cold rain, which seemed to unsettle the fish once again. All in all new pb's broken and good times alround.

The "Bovril Brothers" who arrived this Saturday came a good 5 years ago so it was good to catch up with some old faces combined with plenty of banter from the off. The 4 lads have spread out leaving Peg 2 empty, & as you guessed it the fish are ripping the bottom up at the back of the weed bed each day. Matt in Peg 3 has been priming the area each day so hopefully it will pay off tomorrow when he puts a rod in there. First fish out this week was a lovely long 42lb Mirror for Dan in Peg 4, new pb for him so he is very happy. Lee in Peg 1 has dropped 3 fish so far to hookpulls, Matt has landed a fish just under 38lb last night from the far bank trees in Peg 3, & Daz has also landed a 35lb+ from Peg 5 last night. Lots of fish seem to be in Pegs 1 & 2 this week so I hope they start switch from the naturals and get onto the bait soon. The fish are looking in good condition now, along with them starting to fill out a little after the last few months antics!!

I have drained one of the stockponds today, the 3 brood fish have been returned to the lake and the small 8 week old Carp have been graded. I must have removed a couple of thousand fingerlings, only keeping 150 of the best which I will grade again later in the winter. They are smaller in size than the last few years breeding, this could be due to the weather this season being very unsettled, thus upsetting their feeding habits? but either way some stunning little fish have been kept for growing on and hopefully we have a few "Keepers" this winter.

The weather is set to be more settled this week so lets hope the fish respond with a good feed.

Back Soon
