Call Of The Chiffchaff

Posted: 2nd Feb 2014

Over the last couple of days we have had a break from the grey wet skies of the last couple of months with the sun breaking through. Just to see a little sun combined with gaining another hour before nightfall tells me we are on the other side of winter. I could hear the Chiffchaff calling away in the naked landscape which always gives that warm feeling of Spring around the corner. Don't get me wrong, if the wind switches to the east again combined with rain it could turn to snow and feel like deep winter again but today told a different story.

The fish are moving around and I have been seeing dark shapes midwater out in front of Peg 3 telling me the fish are also coming up in the water to gain some extra daylight hours on their back. I'm still feeding on a little and often basis, but only to boost their immune system after the drain down stress.

Work starts with the digger tomorrow and I will be blading over all the paths to tidy the place up after the heavy winter work. It's then a case of topping the Pegs with gravel and replacing some rotten timbers, prune more trees, the list goes on. It's nice to have the fish back in their home now, with still a good couple of months to go before we open so we can rest a little knowing the back is broken for the winter work.

I'm still uploading pics of the draindown on our FB page, so keep up to date with the photos because there are a few of the lake bed showing some of the feeding holes dotted here and there!!!!! X Marks The Spot.

That's all for now but will update as and when anything of interest pops-up.
