Hide & Seek

Posted: 5th Oct 2014

At last the fish have decided to play ball and come out of their summer hiding places and start feeding. I would say this week was the first time over the summer I have seen them keen to look for anglers bait & combined with the lads fishing well it was a fantastic week. With less places for the fish to hide and I presume a drop in the natural food reserves the fish seemed active in most areas of the lake with bubbling and crashing to be found both day & night. The lads spread out with Paul in Peg 1, Scott in 3 & Shaun fishing both 4 & 5 over the week. The lads all had fish over 40lb+ with Scott smiling like a cheshire cat after uping his pb from mid 20s to a 30lb+, then a 38lb pb grassie followed by a 43lb mirror. Paul had a cracking little spot going only 20 yards out from Peg 1 fishing between 1 & 2s water and it produced a fish every morning at breakfast time, including the largest of the week that I managed to help weigh and photograph at 49lb making it a new pb by 1lb for him!!! Once Paul had worked out feeding times he continued to look for other areas in the day finding a few far bank spots that had him picking fish up within a couple of hours of placing the rig along with a kilo of bait and it was away. The lads stuck with tight baiting, boilie and Sanctuary pellet, along with pva bags and shortish rigs doing the business. Shaun took a fish of 40lb 8oz only 20 yards out from Peg 4 early on, he then had to switch tactics with the fish pushing over to the far bank, with only carefully placed baits producing a pick-up. All in all it was a great week with a few gems turning up including a 40lb common I have not seen since last year along with a few other stunners, a good 10 fish lost to hookpulls with the weed playing a part!!!!. The week ended with 30 fish and 4 stockies. Best was the 49lb plus another 8 fish over 40lb+ including a gorgeous very dark Mirror of 47lb+. 11 fish over 30lb upto 39lb+, 11 fish over 20lb+ including 3 of 29lb+.

Lets just hope the sun returns after the complete wash-out we have had today and a drop of 15oc. The fish were showing this evening around the centre areas of the lake and I'm sure we will see a few more on the bank this week.

Back Soon
