Keep Your Eye On The Quite One!!
Posted: 23rd Oct 2014
This update from last week is a little late so apologies, it's been busy with only a couple of weeks left to the end of the season and the weather remaining mild until now, we are hoping that the bad weather will remain at bay for just a couple more weeks!!
What a fantastic group of new lads we have just had, they really were enthusiastic about all things aquatic & carpy, so it was great to talk about fishery management for a change and also pick-up some great tips from knowledgeable minds!! On the contrary I'm not sure what the hell was going on with the toilet rolls this week but someone needed to break their weird habitual habits with 2 rolls per day evaporating into thin air, the phantom strikes again!! So next time chaps I will have the crease proof paper ready instead of Andrex which will slow things down a little.
The lads fished well this week with all 4 of them catching and a few new pb's along the way, but I always knew from the start it was the quite one (Dark Assassin) in Peg 2 who had to be watched!! Paul did fish well, resting the swim in periods throughout the day, fishing close to the small weed beds only 30-40 yards out which all contributed to the cherry on the cake on the last evening of the week.
The weather was truly all "over the show" changing from warm to mild, wet & windy to sunshine which seemed to change the carps behaviour some what. Also stacks of fish crashing in the dark hours and lots of bubbling around the halfway/ 3/4 way mark infront of most Pegs. First out the blocks was Adam in Peg 1 with a small stockie common of low 20lb, followed by a few days of nice late Autumn sunshine waking the fish up a little. Adam took a 38lb+ mirror the following day with Alan in Peg 4 landing a 36lb+ mirror & Nigel in Peg 5 slipping the net unde a 36lb+ mirror. Things where looking up with lots of signs of fish in front of Peg 3 & 4 but Paul in Peg 2 was ready to play his trump card. He first slipped the net under a 42lb 8 oz mirror along with Alan taking a 30lb nice scaley mirror on the Tuesday night. The following 24 hrs saw Paul land his second fish of 45lb+ giving him a new Pb and putting him in pole position for the winners cup. The friday picked up again with the lads taking 6 fish in the last 24 hrs including a 43lb for Adam in 1, 43lb 7oz for Paul in 2, 35lb for Alan and a low 20lb stockie only leaving the best til last when I got a call late friday afternoon with Paul ready to take pictures of a 50lb 2oz huge high backed Mirror. Laughs alround and a great group picture to finish off, it was a great ending to the week. Effort = reward I think chaps, but lets be straight, Paul was in a different class. Adam rounded the week off with fish number 13 on the Friday night but the lads just kicked back and enjoyed a cool beer and good grub to the end the week, but all keen I think to put Paul in his place the second time around.
3 Regulars arrived on the Saturday to lovely warm weather and the fish still very active in Pegs 1,2,3. The lads dropped into those swims with Mark fishing out into the centre of the lake in Peg 3 where fish had been showing. PVA bag went out along with 100 baits scattered with the stick producing the first fish this week of 50lb 14oz, Yes, nice start. Cockney Roger managed a brace of fish on the first night also upto 29lb+ but then the weather and fish started to change the game!! But I will post that towards the end of the week.
