What Did I Tell You Boys, It's All In The wrist Action!
Posted: 28th Apr 2013
What a weeks fishing!! The lake has fished it's socks off this week but before I tell you all about it there is a story that cannot go untold.
Mike & Dave who are regulars brought a 3rd person along this time which was Darren in Peg 1. What a weeks fishing this chap had with over a dozen fish in his net within the first 24 hours, he was onto something special. After the drive and being up all night he looked exhausted and explained he had problems with RSI with his wrists, combined with the fish fighting like animals he was struggling. After some advice off to the Chemists he went to have his pants pulled down with a wrist strap that looked something like RoboCop would wear, and 50 euros lighter he returns for more arm aching action!!
By Tuesday/Wednesday and bagging another 3 fish over 40lb+ the other two lads started giving him stick about wrist problems, lonely bivvies, brace of 40's you know the score!!! Now Darren runs his own translation company so at the end of the week a quick phone call and he gets one of the girls in the office to put a sentence together explaining in French he was not happy with the wrist strap. Back to the Chemist at the end of the week to show the disgruntled lady behind the counter the translated message on his Iphone having the audacity to return a "Soiled Item" for a refund "How Very Dare You" 10 out of 10 mate for the cheek.
Joking aside he was a Gentleman and fished peg 1 fantastically, holding the fish there all week by baiting regular with good quality bait and rotating the rods over 5 spots and taking no less than 6 fish over 40lb+ himself to just under 47lb, good angling.
Mike In 5 And Dave in 3 played the long game too, baiting quite heavy and regular to keep the fish returning, ending the week on 64 fish. Not a baitboat in sight just quality angling, & thinking about their baiting strategy, the lads fished very well even having time for a meat feast every evening with a cold beer, resting the swims, before returning for more action.
I felt for the first time since we started the business I could start to see the fruits of our labour, and some of the fish caught this week were just stunning. Some of these fish I bred back in 2008 when we started out, and what was caught this week really showed there are some special fish in the future for this place. Just too many pictures to list so check out our FaceBook page, where I will upload some pics and videos so you see some of the fish. The lads also had some of the young stock fish that are 8oz under 20lb+ which I did not include in the total but never the less, linear's, heavy scaled, fully's, just some real gems for the future. We have worked hard to promote and develop "The Sanctuary" and have never wanted, neither claimed to be all about size and numbers, quality has always been our priority and this week proved that!! Happy days.
With the best going 49lb Again, 9 fish over 40lb+. 32 fish over 30lb+ with no less than 20 of them being mid 30lb and most between 36-37lb with a couple of 39lb+ to Dave. 8 fish over 20lb+ to 29lb. 15 grassies to mid 30lb mostly coming to Dave in peg 3.
New Grange, Sanctuary Pellet and a little hemp were the winning methods for the Group.
Picture below is of Mikes mirror of 44lb, a little gem, proper fish!!
The Stoke lads are back this week, this will be a week of banter from start to finish and with the Heades brothers taking the first fish of 41lb+ last night followed by another 4 good fish the lake looks set to fish well again with this cool weather ahead. I cannot see them spawning for a while just yet, which will give them chance to put the weight on they have lost over the winter burning those fat reserves, bringing them into tip-top shape for the season. The fish are fighting so hard at the moment, 20 min battles under the tip are not uncommon, with Darren playing a fish for over 40 minutes down in 1, but that could have been his wrist!!!!
Over & Out.
