37 Is The Magic Number
Posted: 24th Sep 2012
The number 37 has cropped up again after the 37lb mirror doing battle for 37 minutes, but this time we have 37mm of rain on Friday, which is the very first drop we have seen for over 3 months. To say it has been another dry summer is an understatement, and once again the land is looking parched like Africa. The lakes have held up well with the weather conditions but the rain was very welcome, and the fish did respond!!
The chaps all fished well and the lake was kind once again with 41 fish gracing the bank this week. It was funny how Clive in peg 1 was catching with just the boilie approach, with him giving up on the hemp and boilies due to not catching over the hemp. Then Andy in peg 1 was doing the opposite with the fish coming to a scattering of hemp and boilies, that's fishing Hey. Not wanting to forget George in peg 3 with him having a good run mid week with a few good fish under his belt, but all the while the fish did not seem to rest out in front of him and it was more a case of picking them up as they moved through.
Largest fish of the week was a 46lb 4oz followed by another 2 of 45lb+ and 7 in total over 40lb+. No less than 25 fish of 30lb+ which lets not forget by UK standards is an unreal number of 30lb fish in a week. It is so easy to get lost with numbers and weights and sometimes you have to stop and think about what is being caught each week because it's not "Real Fishing". Of the 30's, 9 of them where 35lb+ and 3 x39lb+. The remainder 9x 20lb+ fish included 4 over 28lb+, 1x 29lb+. No grassies this week which was crazy considering George wanted to bag one, and 4 fish lost this week.
All in all another quality week and Big fish mix and a secrect Milk protein doing the business.
We have had more wet weather today and the new group made up of the "Stoke Brothers" landing 11 x 30lb+ fish already to 39lb and 2 x 29lb+ so it could be once again a blistering week?
2 of the stock ponds have been drained and the adult Zander are already looking in prime condition for next years breeding. The young Z's from this years spawning are already around 25cm long, which I'm very pleased with and will be stocked out for the Biomass control of the lakes over the next few days. I will start trying to capture some of this activity with the camera so you can see what's involved, it's all intreasting stuff!! The 100+ 2lb Zander stocked into the 7 acre lake last winter are doing a grand job of keeping the crayfish under control, so I will be monitoring their progress over the next 2 seasons.
That's all for now and it's back to the sketch pad, I'm in the process of drawing a fully scaled mirror for a much bigger piece, which I'm hoping to put together later in the year, I just need to find more time each day to squeeze it all in.
I will start to post more pictures of my artwork through Facebook, which will give you more of an insight into some of the commission work I have been doing, if you're intrested in a piece being commissioned for yourself please feel free to contact me.
