Open The Flood Gates!!!!
Posted: 14th Jan 2013
Over the last week we have had another deluge of rain with over 70 mm falling in one night, which saw the lakes rise over 12", and the valley was filling up fast and looking more like another lake than grass fields. I have had the sluice gate open and clear of debris, and it's been a daily task to keep things clear and free flowing to get rid of the excess water ASAP. This has set me back a week, with the back bay only just maintaining it's level, neither dropping or rising.
I have attached a picture of the cut through, which has been dug with a small machine to keep the trench as narrow as possible, hopefully the lake will drop a couple of feet in the next 3-4 days and we can start to make plans to remove the fish. There is a shoal of 1 x summer roach off the dam that resembles a herring shoal that you see on the likes of "Plant Earth", in one massive tight ball, there are literally millions of the things, and it amazes me how many can be bred in a summer.
Apart from the back bay, things are quiet at the moment with the very cold wind keeping most creatures hiding up and trying to stay warm. I have been hearing the Tawny Owls hooting each night down by the lake, with them starting to claim breeding sites ready for very early spring or even as early as late Feb/March.
Availability for 2013 is very limited now with two weeks left for the season, we have a week in June and the last week of our season being end of October just coming into November. If any one is thinking of a trip this year please feel free to contact for more details.
Back soon with more info and Jayne has just let me know they have forcast 40mm of snow tonight!!!! Great.
