Hello,Hello,Hello

Posted: 9th May 2016

So far so good, this season has started very steady each week with some wonderful catches for each group. The weather has now turned for the better and we are starting to see more seasonal temps at last. It was still very cold for the start of the week for the chaps....this had rolled on from the week before so naturally the fishing had slowed down with a clear divide with small fish feeding first, followed by the larger fish starting to move around and get back on the feed later in the week. Some of the females are looking very plump indeed and the eggs appear to have swollen so great care is needed with the fish on the bank at the moment. Plenty of fresh water in the cradles covering the fishes head and gills is paramount, along with care while handling, pec fins tucked back when lifting fish with the retainer slings and minimizing the time fish are on the bank.

We are having issues with the blog once again with images so please view our FB page for regular image updates please.

Despite the hard frosts on Sat, Sun, Monday, Tuesday the fish seemed to remain in Peg 5/4 area with Spencer in Peg 1 fishing his cockles off all week trying to pick-up the few fish that where down that end of the lake. Guy was picking up fish in the dark hours in Peg 3 as they passed through the swim on the far bank but it was Steve in Peg 5 who had a week to remember.....he played the long game insteady of panicking because he had not caught for the first two days, he continued with the feeding every hour, 20-30 boilies over each rod, once a day a good baiting over each spot and the fish started to come thick and fast through the daylight hours. It was very quiet at nightfall which seems to be the case in 5 at the moment, even better I say, if you can catch them in the daytime! The highlight was brace of 50s for Steve at 50lb 8oz and just over 50lb which was very special indeed, but Guy & Spencer both had fish over 40lb with Guy landing a mirror of 49lb so was very close to the magic mark himself, with Spencer being saved by the bell with a mirror of 42lb while ready to pack-up on Saturday.

All in all the chaps fished very well and made the most of what was in front of them with the week total of 30 fish being another good result. largest fish being the  2 x 50lb+ fish, 5 over 40lb including a 46lb,49lb. 9 fish over 30lb+ including 37,38, 2 x 39lb. 14 x 20s including fish of 26,27,28,29lb+. The chaps also landed 5 fish x 18lb but I have not included the young stockies in the total. Some great looking fish landed this week with Spencer having a least 3 heavly scaled fish to 32lb early on in the week. Odd Grassie has been coming out but no numbers as such, I think we might do a 50lb this summer, if not it will be very close I'm sure!

Lots of wildlife around the lake at the moment with Nightingales singing day and night along with the first Turtle Doves arriving last week purring down by the waters edge is always a clear sign summer is on its way.

3 more regulars have arrived this week and so far with the low pressure and light showers & sunshine the fish are feeding hard once again....two more big fish out so far so it's looking like another great week ahead!
