Pink Panthers Pinky's!!!
Posted: 12th May 2013
It's all about the Pink Pop-ups said the Pink Panther!!!! I've seen some bright pop-ups over my time but these bad boys burn your retina out. Spencer, fishing peg 3 seemed to be getting his fish using these bright baits on top of a bottom bait, Snowman style, but over the course of the week he changed his bait more times than I've had hot dinners, and it did turn out well for him.
The fishing was a week of highs and lows for not the first time this season. The weather was roasting early on in the week, touching mid 20oc in the shade and giving the lads a nice lobster tan, but midweek it turned on its head again. The fish started to think about spawning again showing a few bash marks for their troubles over the last few weeks and they had stayed in a big shoal, which they have been doing for a few weeks now. They gravitated towards peg 5 on Tuesday on mass, and you could have walked on their backs, but with the temp plummeting combined with cold rain they retreated back down to Pegs 1 & 2 again. Spencer was hooking fish each day but mostly the pumped up male fish, and the same for Steve in peg 5 but it was patchy fishing for him with the fish moving in then out again. Guy in peg 1 had no fish in front of him for most of the week so he moved to peg 4 mid week, resulting in losing his first two fish and then bagging a 41lb very spawny Mirror. He decided to move back down into Peg 1 for the last night, straight after catching the 41lb because the fish had piled down there again. Just while doing so Spencer had his first 40 of 47lb 13oz from Peg 2 and after Guy settling into Peg 1 only a couple of hours later he had the best of the week with another 49lb 1oz fish with a little help from his mate (say no more)
A clear contrast was evident with the lads catching the 30lb male fish for the week, then after the temp change and the fish gave up on the idea of spawning they had the 3 fish over 40lb back to back on the last day.
I just don't have a clue how it will pan out this season, but each week we are producing good fish regardless, if you put the effort in. The fish are showing full bellies now and they are very soft which tells me the eggs are swollen and ready, but we need a good week of warm weather again before it happens. They have spawned again in the back stream, but nothing on the 15 acre lake, so it's all ready to happen when the conditions are right.
18 fish was the total with the 49lb 1oz being the best along with two other 40lb fish, 10 fish over 30lb and 5 fish of 20lb+ including 2x 28lb and 2x 29lb, mostly males. A few fish lost this week for one reason or another.
The lads were a pleasure to have here, and two of them breaking pb's they could not have been happier, the only down side was getting them off site, because they would have done another week!!!
Sanctuary pellet, Cell, Od xxx and the secret Pink pop-ups catching this week.
We have father and 2 sons this week who came a few years ago, and once again could not be a nicer bunch of people, along with quality angling, so lets see how they fare. First night they had a 36lb, 30lb & 42lb so lets hope they keep it rolling.
That's all folks & back soon.
