Heston Blumenthal in Town!

Posted: 9th Oct 2016

I guess your thinking what the hell is the title all about? well I guess the only one who will know is John from the group last week!! We had 3 anglers booking the lake with Bez coming here a good few years ago along with two new anglers. Now I have seen a few groups come and go, and once in a while you come across a group of lads who are just as keen on their food as they are fishing....but this chap was something else. Each morning while I would be doing the breakfast run he would go into great depths about what they would be eating for tea with more passion than "Heston" himself. 28 day matured steaks, sauteed with this and that....pan-fried with frogs legs and goats testicles, you name it this fella was rustling it up!! Beats a pot noodle I guess!!

We had a huge drop in nigh-time temps this week and it's one of the earliest dates I can remember towards the end of the season that we have had a very light frost. The wind has swung to the north and it has a real bite to it but the days are clear blue skies and out of the wind it feels very pleasant indeed.....if the wind drops it will be in the low 20s again, feeling just perfect for the time of the season.. fingers crossed it changes. Peg 1 seemed to produce fish through the daytime for Shane, Peg 3 and centre parts of the lake producing fish through the dark. Bez moved around after catching fish early in the week but the fish moved out from Peg 5 with the temperature drop having a more pronounced effect in the shallow water. Two new pbs broke for the chaps this week with Shaun landing a 48lb mirror and John catching 4 fish over 40lb+ on the bounce with a new pb of 46lb 8oz. Bez took fish to 39lb from 5, then moved into 2 and had a stunning linear.....then deciding to move again for the last night kipping under the stars in 4 which paid off with 3 fish to 37lb+. Shane and John decided to stick with the same spots which did payoff in the long run and shane had a couple of fish that I have not seen for some time on the bank, both long framed male fish in stunning condition....well done mate.

The week total was 24 fish landed, a futher 11 stockies under 20lb+ which I havent included once again.......6 fish over 40lb+ to 48lb. We had a couple of surprise zander being caught this week around 7-8lb on pop-ups, this happens once in a while but never 2 in quick succession. All in all it was another good week despite the cooling temps and new pb's are the icing on the cake!!

We have a father & Son on the lake this week...both called Dave so I cannot get their names wrong this week, let's see how they fare.
