Against The Elements

Posted: 16th Oct 2016

Well the chaps this week have had it all thrown at them! Father & Son tackled the lake this week but with Dad going down with a bout of Flu when they arrived he was struggling to keep warm with the huge drop in temps...days later David his son followed suit and it really put a dampener on the best part of the week. I set up a heater in the kitchen to keep them warm, with Son David ( both called David to make it easy for myself) slept midweek in the kitchen without fishing while trying to get back on his feet. The fish had plenty of room to move this week and with the 3 hard ground frosts at the begining of the week I had the feeling the bigger fish took a step back for a few days and it was a case of playing the long game for the chaps! With regular baiting for Dad in Peg 2 and fish seeming to feed in the dark his Right hand-rod started to produce the goods, and it was fished to an area once again in no-mans land and not too far out....good angling!!!

The chaps fished 2 & 3 for the week, moving for one afternoon into pegs 1 & 5 which did produce 3 stockies in the daylight hours. The rest came at dusk or in the dark with the centre part of the lake producing a nice 47lb+ for Son in peg 3. Thursday produced some nice action in Peg 2 with 3 fish over 30lb+ and when "Son" got back on the rods he also had a 43lb from the centre part of the lake. Best fish of the week came at the end when the weather turned again and we had our first full day of rain for 4 months, resulting in a 49lb 8oz for Dad and a new pb at that!! Despite the little fishing the chaps soldiered on and managed to put 11 fish in the net along with 8 smaller stockies not included in the grand total. 49lb.8oz,47lb,43......4 fish over 30lb+ to 39lb 8oz, and 4 x 20lb+ including 2 x 28b. Pictures to follow on FB when they come through...well done chaps you slogged it out this week.

We are now rolling into the second to last week of the season with 3 new customers on the lake.....with the peak of the full moon tonight I would expect fish to be caught through the day but we shall see. Franky in Peg 3 last night under the full moon took a small zander on a spinner bait and they are hoping for one a little bigger this week if possible.

I'm in the process of draining stockponds, re-liming and cleaning the pond beds ready for next years breeding program. I will post images today via FB if anyone is interested.
