Anglers Mail Front Cover & Billy Boilie Strikes Again
Posted: 19th Aug 2012
What a week, the weather has been red hot and today it's close to an historical high for this region of France, getting close to 40oc in the shade. The crazy thing is the fish are still on the feed and the lads had a cracking week with fish still coming out at the height of the midday sun when you would never think of catching!! You can never call this game.
Young Billy Boilie had more big fish than Captain Birds Eye down in peg 1 & 2, teamed up with his Grandad and once again the lake was good to them. Mr Moore was trying hard to stay clear of the Grassies, wiping him out in peg 4. A change of bait midweek did the trick and he then started to get through to the Carp, good angling mate. Arthur down in peg 5 had to work hard for his fish due to the bulk being down the other end, but all 4 lads had fish over 40lb+ so it was good fishing.
49 fish was the week total with the best going 45lb 5oz to young Billy followed by another 3 low 40lb fish, 25x 30lb+ fish (including 13 x mid 30's and 4 of 39lb+) 15 Grassies with most around 30lb and one of the better ones weighed at 35lb+ with Barry having a right clonker in peg 1, but could not control it once in the net to weigh it, be warned it's like "Steve Irwin" down there with a big Grassie in the net. Only difference being Barry had his eyes shut more times than an Eygptian Mummy, so no chance of him getting in and playing WWF with one.
5x 20lb+ (including 2 upper 20's) finished the week nicely. For the weather conditions you could not ask for more.
Cell, XXX, Bloodworm & Sanctuary Pellet all did the business this week.
Great Company and a quality week all round, next time I think young Billy will need a few more chocolate bars after our young Gabriel was like a Wild Boar in his bivvy, tucking into a few more pieces than his little belly could handle.
